The Charity Cycling Club has been accredited as a Section 18A, Non-Profit Public Benefit organization by the Department of Social Development. Therefore under section 30 of Public Benefit Organisations, all deductions and donations made in kind to this Organization can now be claimed off the taxable income of the taxpayer under section 18. Any Sponsor making any donation to the Charity Cycling Club and ultimately the beneficiary of the cycle tour, the Orphanage Housing Project, shall be issued with a certificate which should be used by the sponsor, in order to realise the full benefit of this accreditation as it has been issued for the purposes of a tax benefit under section 18A of the Income Tax Act, 1962.
The Beneficiaries of the 2012 Challenge:
The Charity Cycling Club have decided to continue donating the money which has been generously sponsored by various donors and Companies into the local community around Sun City, as well as donating money to various charities along the way to the Table Bay Hotel. Beneficiaries will include the various CSI projects for Sun City, Flamingo Casino, Golden Valley Casino, Nazareth House and the Table Bay Hotel respectively.
Marketing and Brand activity:
In the previous 10 years of the Charity Cycle Tour the event managed to receive coverage on television through M-Net‘s Super Cycling, Super Saturday, E-TV as well as SABC Women in Sport. The Tour coverage was packaged into a 30 minute cycling special which was broadcast on DSTV channel S6 and others over a number of weeks. The team also receives coverage and airtime through various radio channels, including Radio RSG, Radio Algoa, Radio 702, Radio 604 and more recently on KFM and Jacaranda FM.
The event received coverage in the printed media in many towns en route. The Tour has its own Web Site facility making use of daily updates as to the progress of the cyclists via blogging and various other social media (Facebook and The Table Bay Blog), and has links to the sponsors and the respective beneficiary Web Sites.
The reigning Miss SA, Melinda Bam was involved to see the cyclists off at the Palace Sun City, supporting them at various points throughout our journey and to share in handing over contributions to the various beneficiaries en route.
The Charity Cycling Club approached the media to assist with coverage of the 2012 event, requesting members of the media to support the initiative because it‘s a charitable event and no advertising is being paid for.
Additional advertising and branding opportunities exist through the official cycling kit, the official Tour Web Page, branded clothing (provided by the sponsors) as well as magnetic advertising boards on the busses, trucks and trailers accompanying the cyclists.
Direct benefit to the Sponsors and Donors of this project include:
Due to the Charity Cycling Clubs’ Accreditation as an Article 18A Non-Profit organization, your full contribution can be deducted from your net profit prior to taxation which will result in less taxation, a legal benefit approved by the Government.
Due to the accreditation of the Charity Cycling Club, all sponsors will be able to claim points on Socio Economic Development for their respective BEE Scorecards which will again benefit organisations / Companies as they are complying to the requirements as laid down by Government. Further benefits will be derived from the fact that the majority of the donations will be given directly to black beneficiaries with regards to Enterprise Development.
By supporting this project you would be able to use the Clubs’ accreditation in order to assist your Company with your BEE rating as this project can be added to your Balanced Score Card. By being involved in the project you will receive your certificate which you can use as part of your CSI Projects, further assisting you to reach your respective targets.
Further benefits to sponsors include branding opportunities. The event will not necessarily result in additional sales to your Company; however it will give you a huge marketing opportunity which will result in brand exposure through the various advertising channels and possible sales growth. Branding opportunities exist to all sponsors and donors through the Internet, and all sponsors logos will be advertised on the Tour’s official Web page regardless of your contribution.
All sponsors will be invited to promote their respective logos by providing us with magnetic advertising boards which will be displayed on the vehicles accompanying the cyclists.
Costs incurred by The Charity Cycling Club:
As per the Club‘s constitution and as laid down by the Registrar of Public Benefit Organisations, between 30-40% of all the monies raised will be used to cover the costs of this event and a guaranteed 60% of all income generated will be used for the sole purpose it was intended - to plough much-needed funds into charity projects.
The Charity Cycling Club is very proud of our track record and has managed to control expenses in prior Tours, the expenses during 2009 only amounted to 18% of all the money raised and therefore the rest of the money could go to the people who needed it most and by doing so, help to eradicate poverty.
Surety and peace of mind:
The books and finances of The Charity Cycling Club are controlled by the Club Committee and audited by Rautenbach and van Niekerk Auditors as well as the Commissioner of Public Benefit Organisations.
